Our Condolences to the family of Ms. Sallie W. Richardson.

Sallie Mae Walthour Richardson of Midway, GA., transitioned to her heavenly home on Wednesday, February 25, 2021. Mrs. Richardson was the youngest daughter and fifth child of William McKinley and Wilhelmenia Frasier Walthour. She graduated Valedictorian from Liberty County Training School in 1951 and graduated in 1955 from Savannah State College now Savannah State University (SSU).  

She was married for 19 years (1955-1974) to the late 1stSgt. Molbro Roberts of Tradehill and to this union three children were born. In 1980, she married her highschool sweetheart, the late Lee Thomas Richardson of Holmestown, Georgia, who died in 1994.  

Sallie Richardson was committed to her community and leading through service. She worked in the fields of education and medicine before finding her calling in social work. She retired from the Director’s position at Liberty County’s Department of Family and Children Services in 2000. She was a former President of Prevent Child Abuse Liberty Inc., and helped start the Liberty County division of the Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program. 

Her desire to serve extended beyond her profession and into her extracurricular activities. She led by example serving in many capacities at Midway Congregational Church including President, and as the administrator of the Dorchester Improvement Association. She encouraged sisterhood and civic duty as the Chartering President of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Hinesville Alumnae Chapter and as a Life Member of the NAACP. Mrs. Richardson served two-terms as the member of the Coastal Workforce Board representing Liberty County. She was the former Chair of the Family Connection Board and chair of a Liberty Citizen Judicial Review Panel. She became a member and Worthy Matron of the Limerick Chapter #336 Order of the Eastern Star (O.E.S.). She also held memberships in the GA Retirees Association, Liberty County Welfare Association, the Liberty County Historical Society and the Diversity Health Board.  In 2015, Mrs. Richardson was honored to serve as Grand Marshall of the Liberty County Martin Luther King , Jr. (MLK) Day parade. 

Sallie Richardson went about doing good across the county, region and state. Her philosopy was “Life is God’s gift to us and what we do with it, our service, is our gift back to him.” Her legacy will live on forever through all of the lives she impacted through her razor- sharp wit, generosity, and service.

She was proceeded in death  by four siblings:  Lillie W. Gillard, Jerry, Sam and William Walthour, Jr., as well as three stepchildren: Deborah, Derrick, and Alvin Richardson, and step grandson, Josh Varner.

She leaves to mourn her passing: her three children--Claire (Bradley) Robinson of Hinesville, GA, Sandra (Vince) Bell of Atlanta, GA, and Molbro Vernon (Lisa) of Hinesville, GA. She lives on through her six grandchildren: Jamel Jones, Ebony Jefferson (Derrick), Vince Terrell Bell, Victoria Renee Bell, Molbro St. John Roberts, Mallory Sterling Roberts.  Two siblings. an older sister, Dorothy Jones of Temple Hills, Md. and a younger brother, Ezekiel (Paulette) Walthour of Hinesville, GA. Surviving in-laws include: Laura Belle Carswell, Rosemary Roberts, Gwen (William) Walthour, Ada (Sam) Walthour, Janie V. (Nathaniel) Smith, Myrtle Salter, Naomi Bell, Elaine Perry, Yvonne,(Ulysses), Swinton, Cain and Walter Richardson. She has three step grandchildren Annie Varner, Barbara and Kendra Richardson. 

Her spirit thrives through her great grandchildren: Xavier Douglas Jones, Ja’Mya Jones, Bradley Eric Jefferson and Jamel Jones Jr. In addition, she leaves to mourn her passing, a host of other family members, friends, and associates.
