Richard James Flanders

Richard James Flanders was born on December 1, 1974 in Miami, Florida to his beloved parents, Doris Flanders and Sammie Lee Flanders. His father would tragically precede him in death before his birth. Richard pursued his early education within the Miami-Dade County Public School district and later entered the workforce to support his single-parent mother. Having a flair for interior design and culinary, Richard thrived and was highly regarded as a decorator and cook in the positions he held. He maintained a reputation of having a strong work ethic, exceptional organizational skills, and a keen sense of style. These attributes translated in every aspect of his life.

Richard possessed an unwavering commitment to support his family. As the second eldest of ten siblings, he assisted in maintaining the household. At seven years old, Richard would collect bottles and cans to recycle for cash. He also ventured out in the wee-hours of the morning to sell newspapers. Dutifully, he performed these tasks to purchase groceries for his family. Regardless of the need, Richard made an effort to meet it. His dedication to family was even more apparent in the lives of his children. Richard was the embodiment of a “great dad”, as referenced by his kids. The love and devotion he gave to them had no bounds.

After a long-fought illness, Richard James Flanders, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family. Befitting, our Heavenly Father, allowed Richard to be embraced with what he cherished most during his transition - family.

Richard is survived by his beloved children: Vicki Doris Flanders, Malachi Isaiah Flanders, and Joshua Emmanuel Flanders; his treasured mother, Doris Flanders; and adored siblings; along with a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
