Melvin Mobley Obituary

The staff of Dorchester Funeral Home would like to express our sincere condolences to the family of Mr. Melvin M Mobley.

All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. 

He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others.

Sunrise
Melvin Maxwell Mobley Jr, affectionately called ‘Junior’ was born on September 26,1926 to the late Melvin “Boy” and Elsie Reddish Mobley in Wayne County Georgia. 

He was baptized early and was a member of St. Thomas  Missionary Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School as a boy.  He graduated from Long County High School. Dad joined the Army in 1945 and received an Honorable Discharge.  He was proud of his service as a Veteran of World War II. He was a member of Prince Hall Masonic Lodge #33.  A Master Barber , he graduated from Barber College  in Tyler Texas. He worked for ITT Rayonier, Wayne-Line Furniture Company, and the Georgia Department of Transportation, where he received The Faithful Service Award. After retiring from GDOT, he drove the bus for Satilla Head Start and Liberty County  School system. He was always talking about his babies. He loved children. 

He was active in the church, serving as chairman of the Deacon Board at Morning Glory  Missionary  Baptist Church.  His favorite Hymn was “Jesus Keep Me Near The Cross”.  Daddy loved to sing and was a member of the Voices of Wayne Male Choir.  His favorite song was Hold onto God’s Unchanging Hand. He sang in the choir until his health started failing. 

An avid sports fan, he cheered on all the teams but loved the Atlanta Braves. 

FAMILY 
He married his classmate   Carrie A Hill on November 27, 1947 after he was discharged  from The army. They shared 74 years together. From  their Union were born 9 children: Patricia A. Lawson;  Jerry M Mobley (Deceased)Dr. Debra M. Sadler; Avia Maria Nix (Nathaniel );Melvin M III (Carol);Mark T Mobley(Dana); Michael J Mobley; Jaundalyn M Mobley; Mitchell B Mobley. Several Grafted children: Dr.s Marcus (Wylene) Martin., Rutha Savage, Gussie Brown, Rebecca Frazier , Melvin Talley and Elizabeth Smith. 
God blessed him to be the Patriarch over five Generations of Mobleys.  
He was always quoting Mark 3:25:  “And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand”, and Joshua 24:15: As for me and My House, We will serve the Lord.  
He loved us all but his heart  belonged to his Grands. They had him smiling and he was always interceding on their behalf. Reminding them to pray and stay in the word. 

SUNSET 
On TUESDAY May 11,2021 , early in the morning  , our Patriarch, “The Man from Waycross “ answered the Master’s call to come home,  to lay down his burdens and rest.  He was preceded in death by his parents Melvin M Sr and Elsie Mobley, both of his siblings Horace Mobley and Sarah Banks and one son Jerry Maxwell Mobley. 

He leaves to cherish beautiful memories of laughter and love: His wife of 74 years Carrie Ann Hill, His eight children: Patrica Lawson, Dr. Debra Sadler, Avia M Nix(Nathaniel), Melvin M III (Carol), Mark T (Dana), Michael J Mobley, Juandlyn M Mobley, Mitchell B Mobley. His Grafted children: Dr.s Marcus and Wylene Martin, Rutha Savage, Gussie Brown, Rebecca Frazier, Melvin Talley and Elizabeth Smith. 
His Sisters and Brothers-In laws: Bishop Lewis Hill (Rachel) of Pembroke, GA; Almetia Sanders of Hinesville, GA; Melvin Monroe of Screven, GA. Dorothy Whitaker of St. Mary’s, GA. Rosie Thomas of Jacksonville, FL. Dr. Vera Booth of Woodbine, GA., Deloris Hill of Kingsland, GA., Calvin Hill (Ervina) of Kingsland GA.,Cassandra Logan (Kirk) of Corpus Christi, TX., Vernellen Rauls of Kingsland, GA. , Eloise Hill of Pembroke, GA. , Mamie Hill of Kingsland, GA., and Shirley Hill of Atlanta, GA.
Twenty-six grandchildren, Thirty-one Great Grandchildren, and ten Great Great Grandchildren.
