Julie Rivera Obituary

Julie Ann Rivera (nee Johnson), was the daughter of Patricia (nee Heldman) and the late Sherrel C. Johnson, Jr.  She was born in Miami and grew up in West Palm Beach, Florida. Later she attended the University of Florida and was an avid "Go Gators" fan. Sadly, Julie passed away unexpectedly on June 13th, 2022 in Savannah, Georgia.

Julie is survived by her loving family: her son Kenneth (Maggie), step-daughters Taylor, and Jessica, her mother Pat, sisters Sheriese (Peter) and Karen, and brother John (Sherry) along with her nieces Nicole (Nick), Rachel, Jessica, and Chelsea (Cody), nephews John (Cari-Ann), Keith (Chelsey), Kyle, and Samuel, and great-nephews James, Oliver, and Benjamin.

Julie was proud to serve her country and at the age of 25, she enlisted in the U.S. Army.  Julie was valued highly for her service as a Drill Sergeant and in the Military Police, ultimately attaining the rank of Sergeant First Class (SFC). Julie earned numerous achievements and honors and was recognized for her overseas service and expert marksmanship. In 1999, she honorably retired from her Army career due to health issues. Julie continued to serve the U.S. Army as a civilian for nineteen years at Ft. Stewart, Georgia as a Physical Security Specialist.

Our beloved Julie will be forever remembered for saying “most awesome,” and for how she loved her son Kenneth, Ft. Stewart work family, and her pets. She is remembered for her generous spirit, kind nature, and strong Christian beliefs.

A service honoring Julie’s memory will be held in Hinesville, Georgia on Wednesday June 22, 2022, from 5:00-6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Place of Hope in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, The Greenhouse Orphanage in Uganda, or the American Society for the Protection of Abused Animals (ASPCA).
