Hattie Hargrove Obituary

“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy path.” Proverbs 3:5-6

Hattie Simmons Hargrove entered into this world on June 1, 1954 to the late James Simmons and Gertie Roberts Simmons. Hattie, affectionally known as “Ray”, gained her heavenly wings on Monday, May 23, 2022.

Hattie was educated in the Liberty County Schools and graduated from Bradwell Institute in 1974.  Shortly after, Hattie married her high school sweetheart, LeVan Hargrove, and they had two beautiful children. Hattie was blessed to have traveled to Europe where she visited the countries of Germany, Belgium, France, and Spain.  One of Hattie’s greatest accomplishments was working for Gateway Behavioral Heath where she devoted herself to helping individuals with disabilities and supporting the Special Olympics. She enjoyed family gatherings, especially preparing delicious meals and seafood boils. Hattie Ray loved old-fashion remedies and spending quality time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and she loved fishing at “the creek” with her sister, brother, cousins, and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two brothers, Nathan and Abraham Simmons. Hattie leaves to cherish her memories her loving husband Levan Hargrove of 47 years, children Selina (Kermit), Suffolk, VA,  and Brian (Sallie), Midway, GA siblings Evelyn (LeRoy), Manassas, VA,  Whymon (Diane) Philadelphia, PA, Carol, Anthony, James Jr. (Marsha), Thelma (Arthur), Henrietta, Melinda (Marlon), and Vernisha (Kenneth), all of Midway, GA,  devoted sister and brother-in-laws, Albert, Eddie and Catherine Spencer, Riceboro, GA,  Byrdell Bryant, Leila Jones, both of Savannah, GA, Gloria Simmons, Midway, GA, eight grandchildren, one great-grand son, a host of nieces and nephews, two devoted friends, Carolyn Roberts Grady, and Lin White, the love and support from the Treesa Hill Family and numerous other family and friends.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
