Dea. Demory Williams Sr. Obituary

Deacon Demory Taylor Williams Sr., 77, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2024. He was born on February 3, 1947, in Griffin, Georgia, to Mr. Johnny N. Williams, Sr., and Mrs. Jewel T. Williams. In 1966, He graduated from East High School in Buffalo, NY. After graduating, Demory entered Buffalo State University as an English major.

He married Brenda D. Ferguson. To this union, two children, Crystal and Sonya, were born. In 1979, he reunited in matrimony to Carolyn Norwood. To this union three children, Kenyatta, Demory, and Jewell were born.

Demory enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served as a radio operator during the Vietnam War. He was proud to be a marine and was passionate about helping other veterans to obtain the care and resources they deserved. He drove veterans to their appointments, explained paperwork, and served as a chaplain for the Disabled American Veterans organization.

He was a life-long learner, an avid reader, a seeker of knowledge, and a philosopher in his own right. He delighted in sharing knowledge with others, welcoming any opportunity to research and to debate. Additionally, he dedicated time and resources tutoring the neighborhood children, and assisting adults who desired to become more literate. He enjoyed watching Jeopardy! and was rarely defeated when engaging in friendly challenges.

After relocating “down south,” Demory worked for the Department of Labor as a wage and hour adjuster. He trained to be a journeyman and was a member of the Pipe Fitters Union. In 1981 he transferred to Ft. Stewart, GA to accept a position as plumber with the civil service Department of Public Works. He remained in this position until he retired in 1999 to take on his most beloved job of all—as a grandfather.

Demory, affectionately known as Poppy, spent the remainder of his life loving and caring for his grandchildren in every way imaginable.
