The staff of Dorchester Funeral Home would like to express our sincere condolences to the family of Mrs. Cheryl Beckford.
All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort.
He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others.
When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4
On June 7th, 2021 God called home our beloved Cheryl Spann Beckford. Passing away into God's grace after battling with illness. A warrior throughout life, she was 64 years young.
Cheryl was born on August 12th, 1956 to Valincy L. Freeman in Duval County Jacksonville, FL. At a very young age she moved to Miami FL with her mother and siblings. Cheryl was someone who had a heart of gold. Her love was so genuine people instantly fell in love with her.
Cheryl was married to Dwight Johnson Sr. and their union produced 5 beautiful children; Dwight Johnson Jr., Tisean Johnson, Jason Johnson, Nakia Spann, and Adrienne Johnson but unfortunately this union ended in divorce. Cheryl later married Eric Beckford and adopted her sixth dazzling child Denise Cheryl Spann Beckford.
Cheryl was educated within the Miami Dade School System and after completion, started working in the field of optometry. She was passionate about making sure her clients and family knew the importance of good visual health. She especially loved working with the elderly. Cheryl spent most of her career working at Cobb Optical Laboratories Inc. as an optician where she made eyeglasses to the customer’s specifications and operated the retail part of the business. After leaving Cobb Optical she spent the remainder of her career with Vision Works where she worked until retiring. She was extremely dedicated and loved her chosen profession. She resided in Miami, FL for another 18 years
Cheryl then moved to Hinesville, Ga. where she became a member of First Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. She was tremendously enthusiastic when it came to singing God’s praises so of course she joined the choir. She then realized her calling and purpose in life was to spread the gospel allowing her to speak and teach the word of God. On October 8, 2017 she received her Evangelist License.
In her spare time she would study the bible, play games on face book, do her makeup and watch marvel movies. She was an angel inside and out. Cheryl was passionate in everything she strived to do in life. She was very social and believed that everyone has an opportunity in life to become great. She had a joyous and memorable laugh and a smile that would brighten up the darkest room. She loved to spend time with family and friends, she was always thankful for the moments they shared.
This beautiful soul is now preceded in death by her mother; Valincy L. Freeman, and brother; Brian “Tony” Chest.
She is survived by her: Sister; Crystal Walker (Martin Walker) Brothers; Gregory Chest (Angela Chest) and Mark Shelby (Jean Shelby) Grandchildren; Shaela Jonsen Freeman, Tyquese Francis, Shakyra Holmes, Aamori Spann, Jeremiah Spann, Donavan Johnson, Dillan Johnson, and Daylen Johnson.
