Mrs. Algertha P. Garner, 92, of Green Cove Springs, Florida, passed away peacefully on Tuesday October 24, 2023, in Midway Georgia. Mrs. Garner was a native of Liberty County Georgia. She was educated at the historic Dorchester Academy in Midway Georgia. Mrs. Garner moved to Green Cove Springs, Florida in 1948, where she met and married Elisha Garner; who preceded her in death. Early in life, she realized she wanted to work doing the things she loved. She decided to try her hands as a beautician and later opened her own business as a seamstress. She enjoyed sewing and often shared her experiences of sewing for Johnny Carson and his wife. She was also entrusted to make wedding dresses for local bridal shops. She most enjoyed making choir robes, robes for her pastor and sewing for others in the community. Mrs. Garner also enjoyed cooking, crossword puzzles and reading magazines. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, in Green Cove Springs Florida, where Rev. Robert L. Wright presides. There, she was a faithful servant of God and often spoke about the love she had for her church family. Mrs. Garner was preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Martha Perry, husband Elisha Garner, son James Corbett, sisters Lola Dixon, Martha Gaulden, Evelyn Perry, Eunice Simpson and Louise Anderson; brothers, Jessie Perry, Troy Perry and Charles Perry. She leaves to cherish in her memories three grandchildren, and cherished sister-n-laws, Geneva Perry and Pearl Perry and Barbara Garner, her nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends.
