Today we gather together to celebrate the life and death of Sister Terresa Odom
(Thomas) Smith. She died on December 5, 2024 in the comfort of her home
surrounded by family and friends.
She was a dedicated member of First Calvary Missionary Baptist Church of
Hinesville, Ga.
She was the daughter to the late Mr. Charlie and Mrs. Johnnie Mae Thomas of Liberty County Georgia. She was the 7th of 12 children.
She graduated from Bradwell Institute Class of 1971.
In the early 70s, she began her food service career on Ft. Stewart, Ga, where she met the love of her life, the late Mr. Johnny Lee Smith. They were joined in holy matrimony on August 12, 1980. They shared 41 wonderful years of marriage.
From a previous marriage, she had one son, Mr. Corey E. Odom, and they raised him together.
In 1980, she organized and supervised the Liberty County Summer Lunch Program with Coastal Georgia Area CAA, where she was responsible for feeding the children of Liberty County. She also gave countless teenagers their very first
jobs. She continued to do this well into the early 2000s.
After leaving Ft. Stewart, she continued her food service career by joining the
Liberty County School System on November 14, 1988. She retired from the
school system in June of 2015, celebrating 27 years of service. After retirement, she dedicated her life to family, fishing, and spending
countless hours with her grandchildren.
Left to celebrate her life and legacy is her son, Mr. Corey E. (Shana) Odom, who took care of her until her passing. Her grandchildren Corrick, Michael, Johnny Odom, and Phillip Gillis of Hinesville, Ga.
Two Honorary Grandchildren, Dominic and Destinee Russell of Hinesville, Ga.
Sisters Mary Burrell, Charlene(George) Hall, Patricia(Jim) Phipps, Emma Sue
Williams.
Brothers Lewis Nolen, Michael (Pamela) Thomas, Brother and Sister in laws of
Houston, Tx, four great grandchildren, a host of nieces nephews, relatives and
friends
