IN LOVING MEMORY OF

Shirley Mae

Carter

May 27, 1954 — May 26, 2026

Obituary

We gather today to celebrate the life of Shirley Carter, a beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. While our hearts are heavy with grief, we are also grateful for the years we were blessed to share with her and for the memories that will remain with us forever.

Shirley was born on May 27, 1954, in New Orleans, Louisiana a city known for its rich culture, strong family ties, and incredible food. It seems fitting that Shirley carried those same qualities with her throughout her life. She had a warm spirit, spicy attitude, a generous heart and a gift for bringing people together.

One of Shirley’s greatest joys was cooking. She loved cooking as much as she loved her family. She’s preceded in death by her mother Shirley Caesar, her father Joseph Caesar, her husband Caleb Carter and her brother and sister Daniel Parker and Rosalie Lecoq. She leaves to cherish her memories her two daughters Anita Byrd and Robin Carter. A daughter in love Kim Byrd. Her sister Mary Herring. Her grandchildren Theodous Faciane, Terrionna Gonzalez, Terry Faciane Jr, Ashley Byrd, Leionna Moore, Leon Miller Jr., Ashante Byrd, Raven Carter, Anita Byrd, Antonio Byrd and Rickie Carter III. She also leaves behind a slew of great grand children.

Though Shirley passed away on May 26, 2026 , just one day before her 72nd birthday, her legacy remains. It lives on in the recipes she shared, the lessons she taught, the family she loved, and the countless memories that bring smiles even through tears.

Today, we say goodbye to Shirley’s physical presence, but we do not say goodbye to her love. That love remains with us. It is found in every family gathering, every shared meal, and every story told around a table, Shirley Carter will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.

May she rest in peace.
