Curtis Strickland
March 8, 1946 – February 1, 2025
Curtis was born to the late Berry Strickland and the late Elizabeth (Clifford) King Strickland on
March 8, 1946.
He was the fifth of six children, Roosevelt, Rosa Pearl, Ellis (ebaby), Martha Jane and Carl, whom
all preceded him in death.
Curtis died Saturday, February 1, 2025.
Curtis became a member of Bethel A.M.E. at an early age. He was educated in the Liberty school
system. He went on to serve his country in the Army, where he served for 20 years with the rank of
sergeant first class.
He retired from the Army with a few awards including the Army Service Ribbon, National
Defense Service Medal, an Army Fierce Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, three Army
Commendation Medals, an Oak Leaf Cluster, Overseas Service Bar (four), Republic of Vietnam Campaign
Medals With Service (60), Drill Sergeant ID Badge, Overseas Service Ribbon With Numeral 2, Army Good
Conduct Medal (seven), First Class Badge (grenade) and a Marksman Badge (rifle).
After retiring from the Army, he went on and worked another 21 years with the state of
Georgia.
On December 18, 1974, he married Nina, his wife of 50 years. To this union, two children were
born, Eric and Khedra. He leaves his grandchildren, Nadia and Maya, behind to cherish his memory; and
a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives; brothers-in-law, Harry Scott (Leona), Ray Scott (Vernice),
Bobby Scott (Marlena); sisters-in-law, Debra Scott, Nancy Scott and Carolyn Williams.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, February 7, 2025, at 11 a.m. at the Bethel A.M.E.
Church. Burial will be in the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Monday, February 10, 2025, at 10
a.m.
