Robert Ernest Young, Jr., affectionately known as Bob, was born on October 14, 1945, in Boston, Massachusetts, to the late Robert Ernest Young, Sr. and Alexandria Black Young. He was the eldest of four children.

On Sunday, July 12, 2026, at 11:55 a.m., Bob peacefully transitioned from this life with his beloved wife, Barbara, faithfully by his side holding his hand, surrounded by other loving family members. He was preceded in death by his parents and his two brothers, Paul Young of Mattapan, Massachusetts, and Michael Young of Dorchester, Massachusetts.

Bob received his education in Boston's Catholic schools before graduating from English High School in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston. He later attended Boston State College and continued his education by taking courses at several other colleges and universities.

Throughout his life in Boston, Bob held a variety of professional positions. In 1975, he was honored with a plaque recognizing him as one of the Outstanding Young Men of America. Among his many accomplishments was serving the City of Boston under Mayor Kevin White. He served as the mayor's campaign manager for the Dorchester and Mattapan communities.

Determined to pursue entrepreneurship, Bob completed a six week training program at Boston University on How to Own and Operate your Own Business. Equipped with that knowledge and his entrepreneurial spirit, he opened Uphams Corner Fresh Fish and Meat Market on Columbia Road in Dorchester, Massachusetts.

On December 22, 1985, Bob married the love of his life, Barbara Ann Baker-Young. After visiting Barbara's hometown of Midway, Georgia, he fell in love with the area and believed it would be a wonderful place to build their future together. In 1987, they relocated to Georgia, and on April 4, 1989, Bob fulfilled another dream by opening Young's Seafood Restaurant in Hinesville, Georgia. He proudly owned and operated the restaurant for twenty-three years before retiring in 2012.

Bob leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of forty years, Barbara Ann Baker-Young; his sister, Zandrina Riley of Summerville, South Carolina; his brother-in-law, Herman (Sarah) Baker of Midway, Georgia; nieces, Zandrina of Charleston, South Carolina, Kimberly of Atlanta, Georgia, Chante of Summerville, South Carolina, Stephanie (Darryl) Armstead of Atlanta, Georgia, Tiffany Baker of Midway, Georgia, Chante (Reginald) Martin of Allenhurst, Georgia, and Astacia (David) King of Houston, Texas; his cousin, Michael; and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.

The family extends their sincere appreciation to Dr. Sabin Tomas and the compassionate staff of Hospice Savannah for the exceptional care, kindness, and comfort they provided Bob during his final days.
