December 12, 1947 – April 16, 2026
Richard Lee Bacon was born to the late Amos Bacon Sr and Edith Albertha Smith Bacon on December 12,1947 in McIntosh, GA. He graduated from Liberty County High school where he played as a 1st String guard on The Fighting Tigers Basketball team. In 1965 they made history by winning the State Championship with a score of 172-54, the only one in the schools history. After graduation he worked as an orderly and janitor at Liberty Memorial Hospital.
He moved to New York in his early 20s and started working as a Backhoe operator for Harris Water Company before starting his career as a Heavy Equipment Operator Engineer for Amoruso and IUOE Local 15. He assisted his local with the cleanup and rebuilding of the towers after the tragic events of 9/11. Upon retirement he moved back home to Midway GA, where he became a very active member in St Peter's AME Church as a Steward. Richard also served as a mentor/sponsor in both the Jamaica,NY ( Back to Basics) and Midway,GA (Had Enuff) Alcohol Anonymous chapters. He was known to always offer pearls of wisdom and a kind word to anyone who needed.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents Amos Bacon Sr and Edith Albertha Smith Bacon. His siblings Mrs. Willie Mae Johnson, Mrs. Alverta Richardson, Mrs. Lula Belle Powell, Alma Walthour, Mrs Emma Golden, Samuel Bacon, Sr., Leroy Bacon of Midway, GA, Martha Jones of Tampa, FL and Amos Bacon Jr. of Hinesville, GA.
He leaves to mourn his children Delores Crawford of Columbus, OH, Christopher Bacon of Birmingham, AL, Charise Bacon of Birmingham, AL, Jermaine Townsend of Maryland and Karen Bacon Castillo of Jamaica,NY. His grandchildren Christian Brown and Skylar Castillo. His sister Visia Mae Hunt of Midway GA, longtime special friend Vivian Johnson of Jamaica, NY and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
