Obituary

"When peace like a river attendeth my way, when sorrows like sea billows roll; whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say, "It is well, it is well with my soul."

Mr. Randolph (Randy) Augustus Baker, 78, went peacefully into eternal rest on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at his home in the Freedman Grove Community of Liberty County. Randy was born on December 31, 1944, to Margaret A. Baker in the Freedman Grove Community. At an early age Randy accepted Christ as he joined the Ebeneezer Presbyterian Church, Freedman Grove, Georgia. His belief was strong in his faith in the Lord. He often quoted the "B-I-B-L-E, that's the book for me".

Randy's formal education was in the Liberty County School System. He was a proud graduate of the Historic Liberty County High School Class of 1963. Randy believed in looking good and smelling good at all times. His classmates had no other choice than to bestow upon him the title of "Best Dressed" of his Senior Class. He was a member of the football team and the high school chorus under the direction of Ms. Deborah Robinson. After graduation, he moved to Bronx, New York, with his Uncle Ulysses to seek employment and became a Pharmacy Technician.

After leaving New York with a desire to serve his country, Randy entered the United States Army, where he served honorably. One of his favorite tours of duty was spent at the military base in Alaska.

Randy began his long-term employment at Interstate Paper Corporation, shortly after its inception. He worked his way through the ranks, becoming second in command of the Power Department. In 2008, he retired after nearly 40 years of dedicated service. Randy is predeceased by his parents: Maxie and Margaret Baker Jones; five siblings: Beverly, Rosemary, Carlotta, Maxie III, and Neal; his Maternal Grandparents: Ulysses and Mary G. Baker; Paternal Grandparents: Maxie Sr. and Rosa E. Jones. Randy had the personality and natural charisma to make friends no matter the situation. His laughter was infectious to everyone around him. Randy was truly a great man whose impact will be forever felt by his family who loved him dearly. He took an active role in the lives of his grandchildren; whether it was imparting wisdom, teaching them how to garden, or tutoring them in their school work. They could always depend on" Granddaddy" or "Pop Pop".

Randy was a selfless man who gave his all to his family. His passing leaves an unfillable gap inthe hearts of his loved ones. His determination to provide, to support, to forgive and to love, willforever remain in their hearts.

Awaiting the homecoming of those who cherished him are: his devoted spouse, Rose M. Baker of Freedman Grove, GA.; Daughters: Dawn "Gigi" Baker, Savannah, GA., Felicia (Virgil) Jemison-Jones and Kristin (Willie) Barrett of Freedman Grove, GA., and Ashley S. Baker, of Savannah, GA.; Sons: Kevin (Summer) Jemison of Huntsville, AL., Kerry Baker and Cory Baker of Freedman Grove, GA.; One sister: Karen Jones-Jemison of Freedman Grove, GA.; Three Brothers: Maxie (Dianne) Jones IV of Freedman Grove, GA, Neal (Sailor) Jones of Hinesville, GA, and Virgil (Felicia) Jones of Freedman Grove, GA.; Seven Grandchildren: Raheem, Marcus, Jordan, Taylor, Lyndsay, Landon, and Kendall.

A special acknowledgement to Randy's Best Friend, Melford Lee (Robin) Bell of Riceboro, GA. Their steadfast friendship flowed from the workplace into Randy's front yard, where they reminisced about the past while sharing heartfelt conversation and laughter.
