Prophet Otis
Mciver Sr.
March 22, 1944 – December 11, 2024
Prophet Otis McIver, Sr. entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at Memorial Health
University Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia.
Prophet McIver was born March 22, 1944, in Midway, Georgia, to the late Willie Gus, Sr. and Gertrude
Carter McIver. He was preceded in death by four brothers: Johnny McIver, Leon McIver, Eddie McIver,
and Lonnie McIver; and seven sisters: Lula Bell Blow, Willie Mae Strodder, Dorothy Hall, Beatrice
McIver, Hattie McIver, Gertrude Roberts, and Phyllis Johnson.
Prophet McIver, at an early age, joined New Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Riceboro, Georgia.
He began his educational journey attending elementary school in Liberty County, Georgia. He graduated
from Liberty County High School in the Class of 1964. On September 26, 1966, Prophet McIver married
the love of his life, Rebecca Fleming, in a marriage of 58 years, and together they nurtured a family of
seven children.
He was employed by Union Camp Paper Mill in Savannah, Georgia, as a machine operator for 38 years.
After retiring, he later worked at The Liberty County Pre-K Center in Hinesville, Georgia, for 14 years as
a custodial supervisor.
Prophet Otis McIver was a man of faith. When the Lord called him to preach the gospel, he was obedient
to the calling and did what saith the Lord.
He was licensed and ordained to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ on September 26, 1971. He founded
and served as pastor of Church of God Uplifting since May 1981. It was Prophet McIver's prayer that his
past, present, and future be embodied by the following: "If I can help somebody as I pass along, if I can
cheer somebody with a word or a song, if I can show somebody they're traveling wrong, then my living
shall not be in vain. If I can do my duty as a good man ought, if I can bring back beauty to a world
upwrought, if I can spread love's message as the Master taught, then my living shall not be in vain."
Prophet McIver was over his tenure for fifty-three years. He has broadcasted from seventeen radio
stations throughout Georgia and South Carolina.
He not only preached the gospel, he also spread the love of God through his music ministry. Prophet
McIver and his family blessed many souls through their uplifting music. He was truly a man of God, and
what he has done upon this earth can speak for him.
Prophet McIver will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him. His memory will live on in
the hearts of those he touched, and his legacy of love and hard work will continue to inspire us all.
He leaves to cherish so many wonderful memories a loving and devoted wife, Rebecca McIver; seven
children: Pastor Otis McIver, Jr. (Pauline), Prophetess Shatina C. Vargas (Marcus), Minister Marion
McIver of Midway, Georgia, Roger M. McIver of Ludowici, Georgia, Vanessa D. McIver of
McDonough, Georgia, Sherell McIver of Augusta, Georgia, Jeremiah McIver of Columbus, Ohio, and
Enoch McIver of Midway, GA; two brothers: Willie Gus McIver, Midway, GA, and Harry McIver
(Betty), Brooklyn, NY; two brothers-in-law: Daniel Fleming of Midway, GA, and Pastor Johnny Fleming
(Elsie) of Hinesville, GA; three sisters-in-law: Rosetta Fleming, Ludowici, GA, Eliza Fleming, Midway,
GA, and Albertha McIver of Miami, Florida; eleven grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and a host of
nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Rest in peace, Prophet Otis, knowing that you were loved beyond measure, and that your legacy will live
on in the hearts of your family and friends.
