Hurrington
February 24, 1956 – February 5, 2022
Peggy Lou Hurrington was born on February 24, 1956, as the second of three girls to Rev. Charlie W. and Mary L. Hurrington, of Hobart, Oklahoma.& She graduated from Hobart High School, Class of 1974. She worked for many years as a cashier with the Safeway Grocery Store in Hobart before transferring to the Lawton, OK, location. Peggy found Christ at an early age and joined St. Emanuel Baptist church, where she was baptized by her father, Rev. Hurrington.
Peggy moved to Hinesville, Georgia in 1989. She worked for Parker's Convenience Stores for a few years. She then gained employment as Supervisor of Housekeeping, with the Tuttle Army Health Clinic, Hunter Army Airfield, Savannah, GA. She retired from Tuttle in September, 2017.
In 1997, Peggy united with the First Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, Hinesville, under the leadership of Rev. Sinclair L. Thorne. She was a faithful member and faithful to the Ushers' Ministry, she served as president. She was there to greet you with her beautiful smile and a warm welcome. Peggy had a passion for serving and she was devoted to the ministry until she became ill. Peggy also received a 10-year service award from the general missionary Baptist convention.Peggy loved cooking, reading, laughing, and spending time with family. She loved watching football, especially the Dallas Cowboys.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Charlie and Mary Hurrington.
Peggy departed this life on Saturday, February 5, 2022. She leaves to cherish her memory: her son, Julian B. Hurrington of Hinesville, GA, her daughter, Luciana D. Elix of Ludowici, GA; three sisters, Barbara (Johnny) Slaughter of Sierra Vista, AZ, Regina (Frank) Watkins of Clinton, MS, and Linda Hurrington of Dallas, GA; two grandsons, Malik Elix, Ludowici, GA, and Jawan Hurrington, Nashville, TN; two granddaughters, Malaka Elix, Ludowici, GA, and Tiffany Walls, Birmingham, AL, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Peggy had a smile that could light up a room. We will certainly miss that smile.
