Obituary

We announce with profound sorrow the passing of our beloved matriarch, Michelle Denise Coleman, going to glory on June 20, 2023. Born in Shorter, Alabama, on January 10, 1965, to the late Izetta Jenkins and Thomas Anderson.

Michelle lived a life steeped in vibrance, family devotion, and passion for the culinary arts. Her generosity, laughter, steadfast support, and wisdom will be deeply missed by all who were privileged to know her.

In her early days, she was an accomplished model, who walked runways from Germany to Paris, while also serving as a loving Military wife & mother.

A dedicated grandmother of 5, Michelle took every opportunity to be part of her grandchildren most cherished moments. Her commitment was so profound that she frequently flew to Texas to support them, doing exactly this in her final days. Absorbed in what she loved most—spending time with her grandchildren—she was their tireless cheerleader, creating lasting memories and
sharing heartfelt stories.

An extraordinary cook, Michelle could transform humble ingredients into remarkable, restaurant-quality feasts. Her culinary skills spanned across cultures, with standouts like vibrant Korean kimchi, decadent cheesecake, and pecan pie you wouldn't want to share. Michelle's home was more than a residence; it was a haven where she nurtured loved ones with her gifts.

Yet, another of her admirable qualities was a generous heart. Michelle was a servant in her community, aiding the homeless and making herself available to people from all walks of life. She regularly visited and encouraged her younger brother in prison, while advocating for him in a myriad of ways on the outside.

Her generosity, reflected in her giving spirit, made her a cherished figure within her community and beyond. These acts of kindness defined her.

Michelle is survived by her devoted husband, James Coleman, their children Lazarius and Yasmin Coleman, daughter-in-law Jamika Coleman, and five cherished grandchildren: Jackson, Hailey, Grace, Faith, and David Coleman. She is also survived by her siblings, Segura Jenkins, Sherina Jenkins, Morris Jenkins, Marcus Jenkins & Marco Killingsworth, Thomas& Killingsworth, & Provida Thompson.

Each one carries a piece of her vibrant spirit, cherishing the legacy of love, unity, and joyous living that Michelle helped to instill in them.

As we bid farewell to Michelle, we are comforted in knowing her spirit lives on in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, and everyone she touched. Her legacy of love, dedication, vibrant joy, and extraordinary culinary skills, together with her unyielding generosity, continues to nourish our lives, a testament to a life beautifully and selflessly lived.
