Obituary

It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of MSG(R) Kenneth B Cullens, Sr on November 12th , 2024, at the age of 69. He was born on July 31st , 1955, in Sandersville Ga. He graduated from Washington County High School in 1973. Kenneth enlisted in the US Army at the age of 19 on Nov 7, 1974. He served as an active-duty infantryman for 24 years where he exhibited the highest standards of leadership, integrity, and valor.

During his esteemed career he earned numerous commendations, including the prestigious Bronze Service Star, awarded in recognition of his courage and bravery in Southwest Asia. Kenneth loved being a soldier.

After retiring from the US Army, Kenneth continued to live by the values he held dear while working for the Georgia Department of Corrections. Upon his retirement from the Georgia Department of Corrections after 20 years, he held the rank of Lieutenant. He specialized in the areas of operations, training and mentorship of correctional officers with 44 years in a uniform under his belt, it is evident that Kenneth carried with him
the tenets of the Non-Commission Officer (NCO) Creed for all his working days: No one was more professional than he, he was the backbone, competence was his watch word, and he provided outstanding leadership to those under his charge. His legacy of service, patriotism, warrior ethos and sacrifice leave an indelible mark on all who served alongside him.

In his spare time, Kenneth enjoyed listening to his multi-genre vinyl music collection as well as fishing, hunting, grilling, Georgia Bulldog tailgating, traveling, and above all spending time with his family. Kenneth believed that family was everything and he had a zest for life. His presence brought joy and warmth to every room.

Kenneth is preceded in death by his mother Daisy Lee Cullens, his brother Carter Tyrone Cullens, and his brother Harvey Cullens. Kenneth leaves behind the following immediate family to cherish his memories; His devoted and beloved wife of 50 years Mae Nena of Hinesville GA; his children Tiffany Cullens Columbus OH, Cheryl (Brent) Flemming, of Tallahassee FL, Kenneth B Cullens Jr (Doni Cullens) of Savannah GA ,
Tamara Cullens of Hinesville GA and Travis Brown of Atlanta, GA; His Grandchildren: Aaron Dewberry of Columbus OH, Andre Dewberry Columbus OH, Brent Flemming Jr of Tallahassee Florida, Jasmine J Brown of Atlanta Ga, Lakayla Abrams of Atlanta ,GA; His siblings Donnie Mitchell, Michael Cullens, Charles Cullens, Annette (Freddie) Armstrong, Sharon (Wallace) Taylor, Stephanie Dunn, and Vallie Shapel Credle all of Sandersville, GA; His childhood friend Ernest Barkster of Sandersville Ga and band of brothers John Streeter (US ARMY), Charles Williams (US ARMY), Lawrence (Everlina) Ellis ( US ARMY) , Eugene (Amy) Johnson (US ARMY), Don Powe (US Army), Michael (Liz) Murray (US ARMY), Arturo (Kelly) Cardenas (US ARMY), and Mckesson Stafford (US ARMY)

An American hero, loving husband, devoted father, son, brother, uncle and friend to many worldwide leaves behind a legacy of courage, high intellect, resiliency, strength, love and unwavering steadfastness. Kenneth was a guiding light who treated all with kindness and respect, a source of inspiration to everyone around him. His legacy of family, service, loyalty, duty and honor will endure in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. Fly high Top! Rock of the Marne! We are proud of you and love you immensely. We will honor you always.

The family stated that donations may be in Kenneth's name to St Jude Children's Research Hospital
