Joseph W. Hastyentered into eternal rest on September 16, 2021, at the age of 87 at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center in Charleston, South Carolina.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Hasty and Ethel Blakeney Hasty. He is survived by his wife of nearly 28 years, Connie Hasty, his daughter Angela Hasty of Louisville, Kentucky, stepdaughters Karla Frazier of Riceboro, GA, Channie Frazier of Statesboro, GA, LaTonya (Conrade) Irving of Gainesville, FL,and Ebonie Frazier of Riceboro, GA; siblings Mae Frances Hasty Thompson and Lorene Hasty Roberson of Salisbury, NC, and eight grandchildren to whom he was knownas "Poppy."He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends to cherish his memory.

Joseph was born on January 4, 1934 in Marshville, NC. He graduated from Price High School in 1953. Heenlisted in the United States Army in 1954 in Charlotte, NC. Joseph received many awards while enlisted, including the National Defense Service Medal (1stOak Leaf Cluster), Master Parachutist Badge, Combat Infantryman Badge, Vietnam Tuy Hòa Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Bronze Star Medal (1stOak Leaf Cluster), 7 Oversea Bars, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm. Meritorious Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal (6thAward), Expert (Rifle-M16A1). Joseph was also an instructor at the US Military Academy in West Point, NY. One outstanding act of service in his military career is as follows:On26March1966, near Republic Vietnam, while his platoon was engaged with the Viet Kong,Sergeant Hasty exposed himself to intense fire while maneuvering his squad behind the enemy. He again exposed himself as he assisted a wounded man to cover by direction of the commanding General 1stBrigade, 101stAirborne Division.

Master Sergeant Joseph Weldon Hasty retired at Ft. Stewart, Georgia in 1981 after 27 years of service. He was later employed at TMP Motor Pool and POL Maintenance Vehicle as well as a couple of local garages where he ultimately retired in 2006. Joseph was a member of the Fellowship of Love Church of God In Christ, where he served as an usher and a deacon over the last 23 years.

Heloved to work on cars, and at any given time you could likely find him engaged in conversationregarding cars and their maintenance, and you could also find him working on his beloved project car, a 1964FordThunderbird.Joseph's memories will live on through his family and everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Services will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at the Fellowship of Love, COGIC in Allenhurst, GA at 2:00PM. Public visitation will be held at the Dorchester Funeral Home on Friday, September 24, 2021 in Midway, GA from 1-5PM. The funeral service will be private, and the family is asking that everyone please wear a mask. Joseph will be laid to rest at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville, GA.
