Ham
October 4, 1960 – October 22, 2024
Joseph Walter Ham, a beloved servant of God, went home to be with the Lord on October 22,
2024, at the age of 64. His unwavering faith, gentle spirit, and love for God's Word made him a
light in the lives of all who knew him.
Born on October 4, 1960, Joseph's life was marked by selfless devotion to others, particularly in his cherished role as head custodian at
Snelson-Golden Middle School, where he served with heart and dedication for 27 years. Known
for his kindness and steady presence, Joseph loved helping others, uplifting them with words of
encouragement, often saying, "I am blessed, and I wish the same for you".
A man of deep conviction and warmth, he found joy in teaching, listening to, and living out the
teachings of the Bible, inspiring those around him to pursue lives of faith and compassion. His
love for God and people has left a lasting legacy in his community and beyond.
Joseph is survived by his devoted wife, Atsuko, and a family he loved deeply: his
daughter-in-law, Mina Smith, and his treasured siblings, Barbara Campbell (Prince George, VA),
Alice and Joseph LeCleric (Dinwiddie, VA), Evelyn and Irvin Bell (Chesterfield, VA), Gordan Ray
and Susan Ham (Petersburg, VA), and Linwood O'Dell Jones Jr. (Citrus Spring, FL).
Joseph's life was a testament to the power of faith, kindness, and quiet strength. While he will
be dearly missed, his legacy of compassion and faith lives on, woven into the hearts of all who
had the privilege to know him.
