Her love, gentle spirit, and the memories she created will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

On January 8th 1970, God blessed the world with the life of Iris Smith. Born to the late Mobley Jones and the late Mercedes Murphy-Gomez. 

 Iris was born and raised in Riceboro, Georgia, and attended the Liberty County Public Schools. 

She accepted Christ at an early age, and was baptized at First African Missionary Baptist Church. 

She peacefully departed this life on June 26th 2026; leaving behind a legacy of love, cherished memories, and enduring faith.

On October 24, 2015, Iris married the love of her life, Dementris Smith. Together they built a life rooted in love and faith.

She was a devoted member of House of Love Deliverance Center, where she faithfully worshiped under the leadership of Pastor Clarethia Smith and Apostle James Smith. 

In 2017, Iris and her husband returned to Hinesville, Georgia, where she continued to enjoy the love of family and church. 

Iris was known for her strong work ethic and dedication. She spent many years working in food service, with an extensive tenure of employment.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mobley Jones and Mercedes Murphy-Gomez; her son, Brandon Murphy; her brothers, Joe Murphy; and her sisters, Joyce Murphy and Betty Jean Murphy.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories her devoted husband, Dementris Smith; her children, Marcal Brown of Orlando, Florida; Tyreshia Murphy of Hinesville, Georgia; and grandchildren, La’Meria Murphy and James Murphy, both of Hinesville, Georgia; her brothers, Harry Murphy of Fort Worth, Texas, and Sixto "Mike" (Tina) Gomez of Yulee, Florida; her sister, Camilla D. Murphy of Hinesville, Georgia; Her In-laws, James and Clareitha Smith; James (Shariskka) Smith III; Latonia Smith; Travis (Rashinda) Jones; Trina Smith; all of Baxley, Georgia; her Goddaughter: Danielle Wells, a devoted friend: Kristie Helmke; along with a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever treasure her memory.

Though Iris has departed from this earthly life, her love, gentle spirit, and the memories she created will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
