Obituary

The Staff of Dorchester Funeral Home would like to express our sincere condolences to the family of Mrs. Inez Powell.


All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort.&


He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others.When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4



Inez Stevens was born in McIntosh, GA on January 11, 1946, to the late Evelyn and Isaac Stevens, Sr. She graduated from Liberty County High School in Midway, GA, class of 1963. Inez devoted her life to serving others and retired from the New York City Department of Human Resources after over 30 years of service.



From an early age, she was reared in a Christian home. She joined her parents as a faithful servant at St. Peter's A.M.E., where she assisted her father as Class Leader #6. In 1995, she returned to St. Peter's A.M.E. Church, where she served on the Trustee and Steward boards, and as a class leader, prayer warrior, Circle of Life team leader, a member of the community outreach for Seniors and the financial committee, President of the Rising Star Choir, 8 A.M.morning service Worship Leader and Mistress of Ceremonies for Prayer Breakfast at various churches.



Inez entered in Holy Matrimony to Tony Powell, Jr., on August 28, 1965. This union produced three children. She was a loving wife, proud mother and grandmother. Inez was considered as a mother figure and a mentor to a multitude of others. She was affectionately known as "The Hat Lady".



In addition to her parents, she was preceded In death by a daughter, Jeanette Denise Powell; her sister, Effiedell Stevens and brother, Isaac Stevens, Jr.



Inez is survived by her loving husband, Tony Powell, Jr.; daughter, Janet Lyn Powell, Queens, NY; son, Joseph Powell, Midway, GA; grandchildren, Quinnten Lavant, Jeanette Powell, Anthony Myan Callender; honorary daughters, Alison Hilton, Cynthia Carrington and Lorie Stevens Grant; siblings, Daisy Blount (Henry) and Jerry Stevens, Savannah, GA, Ernestine Britton (Herbert) and Carolyn Stevens, Midway, GA, Clarence Stevens, Harry Stevens (Rosalind), Brunswick, GA, Larry Stevens, Hinesville, GA, Michael Stevens, Panama City, Panama; in-laws, Dorene Stevens (Isaac Stevens, Jr., deceased), Warner Robins, GA, John Powell (Shenita Powell, deceased), Queens, NY, Bertha-Anne Bankston (Rev. Jose), Brooklyn, NY, Jake Powell (Nancy), Midway, GA, Laura Mae Smith (James), Midway, GA and Sandra Simmons (Rev. James), Coatesville, PA.



Uncles, Aunts, Great-Aunts, and over 50 nieces and nephews, 3 god-children, Darryl Wise, Antony Walthour and Sabrina Adkinson and a host of relatives and friends.
