Henrietta Joyce
Mack
August 25, 1937 – April 8, 2026
Henrietta Joyce Phabian Mack, lovingly known as Joyce, was born on August 25, 1937, in Taylor's Creek, Georgia (Ft. Stewart), to the late Luther Edward Phabian and Annie Louise Hendry Phabian. She was the second of three children born to this union.
On April 9, 2026, Joyce peacefully answered the call home from the Almighty and departed this life at The Oceanside Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Tybee Island, Georgia, following a long illness. Though her earthly journey has ended, her spirit of love, kindness, and faith lives on in all who knew her.
At an early age, Joyce accepted Christ as her Savior and remained a devoted and faithful member of Pleasant Grove A.M.E. Church in Hinesville, Georgia. She served faithfully in Choir #2, the Stewardess Board, and the Louise J. Stafford Women's Missionary Society, always giving her time and heart in service to others and to her church family.
Joyce was educated in the Liberty County School System and was a proud member of the Class of 1956. After completing her education, she spent several years in Bunnell, Florida, where she began her family with Mr. Esten Hubbert, Sr. Their union was blessed with two sons, Esten Pete Hubbert, Jr. and Dwight Nathaniel Hubbert. Later in life, Joyce was united in holy matrimony to Mathew Mack of Brooklyn, New York, and to this union was born her son, James Mack, Sr.
Joyce was known for her caring and generous spirit. She found joy in helping her mother, siblings, and extended family whenever they were in need. She never hesitated to lend a helping hand or offer a ride to someone in need. Her warm smile and joyful laughter could brighten any room, and she cherished spending time with her family and friends.
She dedicated several years of service working in the dining facility at Ft. Stewart, where she took pride in preparing meals for the brave men and women of the United States Army. Her work reflected her nurturing nature and her desire to serve others with love and dignity.
Joyce leaves to cherish her loving memory her sons, Esten Pete Hubbert, Jr. and Dwight Nathaniel Hubbert; her grandson, James Mack, Jr.; her daughter-in-law, Bonnie Mack; her aunt, Laura Mae Lewis; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Rudolph Phabian, her sister Sarah Louise Phabian, and her beloved son, James Mack, Sr.
Though she is no longer with us in body, Joyce's legacy of faith, love, and compassion will continue to shine through the lives she touched. Her life was a beautiful reflection of kindness, service, and unwavering devotion, and she will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
