Harold Waye
(Jerome Artyst)
November 13, 1943 – May 14, 2024
In loving memory of our deceased family member, Harold Waye, was born on Saturday, November 13, 1943, at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida, to Mr. Alexander Augustus Waye and Mrs. Ruth Maxwell Waye. From this magical union, Harold was the eighth child born of 10 children. Six of his siblings and parents have preceded him in death. On Tuesday, May 14 2024, at the ripe age of eighty, Harold died in the Long Island Jewish Hospital, Forest Hills in New Gardens, New York.
Upon moving to Riceboro, Georgia, at a young age, Harold was baptized at the New Zion Baptist Church and there he developed a liking for music. Harold would roll his grandma Ella's piano to the back porch where he and his cousin Bobby Taylor would make sweet music. He attended the Georgia Public School in Liberty County and graduated from Liberty County High School in 1962.
In moving on, Harold moved to New York in 1963 seeking employment. His first job was in the Stock Market at Wattling Merchants where he worked for fifteen years. He later worked under the supervision of his brother Eddie Waye at the World Trade Center and later worked for a Taxi and Limousine Service.
After retiring, Harold got back into his music performing in clubs over the years. He went onto recording many songs such as; "You Didn't Have to Lie", "Silly Me", "Have You Needed Love", just to name a few songs. Cousin Bobby Taylor was his drummer.
In later years, Harold would spend his time in the studio recording and rehearsing songs with his musician friends until his health started failing.
As we cherish his memories, Harold leaves his two sisters; Bernice W. Miller, Midway, Georgia, and Ethel Love, Brooklyn, New York, one brother, Eddie Waye, Ludowici, Georgia, one sister-in-law, Michelle Waye, two nephews; Martinez MIller (Paula) Jacksonville, Florida, and Christopher Waye (Michelle) of Massapenqua, New York, two nieces; Beverly Davis (David), Columbia, SC and Tiajwana Stevens, Brooklyn, New York. A generation of grand, great grand and great-great grand nephews and nieces; his musician friends, Joe Zullo and Frank Zullo, and a tremendous host of other family members and friends.
Final and most sacred arrangements are entrusted to the professional care of The Dorchester Funeral Home, 7842 E. Oglethorpe Hwy, Midway, GA.
