Our Condolences to the family of Ms. Glenn Earl(Joann)&Brown.
Ms. Glenn Earl(Joann)Brownwas born on May 9, 1940 in Durham, North Carolina. She is the daughter of the late Ruth Pettiford (Cates) Williams and late James Earl Cates of Timberlake, North Carolina. The granddaughter of the late Jeff and Viola Pettiford of Timberlake, North Carolina. She departed this life on Thursday, February 4, 2021 with her daughter and son by her side. She is the oldest of four siblings. She is proceeded in death by: her grandfather, grandmother, her father; her bonus father, Leonard Williams and her mother.
Joann was educated through the Person County School System and graduated from Person County High School in 1958 in Roxboro, North Carolina. After graduating from high school, she remained at home with her grandparents, Jeff and Viola Pettiford and assisted them with their farm in Timberlake, North Carolina. In 1961, Joann began her career at Duke University Medical Center as an Environmental Service Worker until her retirement after 35years on August 29, 1996.
During her employment with Duke University Medical Center, she met a young man Robert D. Dunston, Sr., and they courted for a short period of time and was wed on July 29, 1966 and during their thirteen years union there were two children born, Robert D. Dunston, Jr. and Petula Y. Dunston-Gomillion.
In 1980, she was wedded to George E. Brown in Durham, North Carolina and he proceeded her in death in 1998.
At an early age, Joann gave her life to Christ and became a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Timberlake, North Carolina. Because of her grandparent's heavy involvement in the church; she spent most of her time there helping around the church to assisting with the youth when she got much older. When she moved to Jacksonville, Florida to be closer to her children and siblings, she joined Little Rock Baptist Church (now Solid Rock Missionary Baptist Church) and was ordained as a Deaconess under Rev. Alexis Kelly. She was a devoted member until her physical health declined and was unable to attend in person.
Joann lived a full and blessed life. She was an active member ofthePrince of Peace Chapter of the Eastern Stars in Durham, North Carolina until her retirement. She loved watching the Soap Operas (Young and the Restless; One Life to Live, General Hospital and Bold and the Beautiful). She loved to crochet, knit and paint. She loved her children, grandchildren and family and at any given time, she would make a day of calling all of her cousins back home in North Carolina, Virginia and New Jersey just to catch up.
She leaves to cherish her legacy and memories her son, David (Michelle) Dunston, Jr, her daughter, Petula (Marvin, Jr) Gomillion, her grandchildren, Brittany Gomillion, Ian Dunston and Aleksander Dunston. Her one (1) brother, Ernest Paul Williams and two (2) sisters, Joyce Williams and Jacqueline Williams. Her three (3) nieces Penny (Woody)Whitlock and Andrea Michelle Wells and Ernestine Williams and two (2) nephews, MichaelWells and Ernest Williams, Jr and a host of cousins and friends.
