Ernest Jackson, 93, of Hinesville, Georgia, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2023, at home. He was born on March 15, 1930, in Ty Ty, Georgia. He was later raised in Cobbtown, Georgia.& Ernest was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
In addition to his parents, Ernest Jackson and Fannie Harper, he is preceded in death by his sister Melissa Byrd.
Ernest is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Eldoris Jackson, and their children: William R Jackson (Doris) of Jesup, GA, Christy Jackson Collins (WJ) of Valrico, FL, , Ernest Jackson III of Hinesville, and Roland Jackson (Maribel) of Valrico, FL. He is also survived by his brother, Benjamin Johnson (Lottie) of Daytona Beach, FL, and brother-in-law Charles Taylor of Savannah. Ernest leaves behind several grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Ernest graduated from high school in Candler County before entering the Army where he served during the Korean War. After his military service, he retired from the Georgia National Guard. Ernest dedicated over 45 years of his career to civil service at Fort Stewart, where he worked as a supervisor of the Central Issue Facility.
Ernest was a member of First Calvary Missionary Baptist Church of Hinesville, where he faithfully served on the Deacon Board since 1970. He held the esteemed position of Chairman of the Deacon Board for many years. His commitment to his faith, his church, and his community was unwavering.
Outside of his professional and religious commitments, Ernest enjoyed fishing. It was his favorite hobby and brought him much joy throughout his life.
Ernest Jackson will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of dedication, love, and service will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
A funeral service to honor Ernest's life will be held on Saturday, July 29 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. Viewing of the body will be held one hour before the service. His body will be laid to rest at the First Calvary Cemetery. The repast will be held at First Calvary Missionary Baptist Church.
