Obituary

Emma Jane Grant was born on February 10,1938, in Dorchester, GA. She was the daughter of the late John and Albertha Holmes. She attended the public schools in Liberty County.

During her early years, Emma worked at the "American Biscuit Company" in New Jersey. In 1973,
Emma moved home and worked in housekeeping at Liberty County Hospital, Hinesville, GA. For many years, Emma later worked in housekeeping at the Master Host Inn in Savannah, GA. Her last years of employment were as a door greeter at Walmart in Savannah, GA.

She was a devoted member of Community Missionary Baptist Church, where she faithfully served in the Senior Choir until her health failed her in 2019. She was also the Mother of the Church. Over the years, she was affectionately known as Dotta, Patsy, and Nanny.

Emma received her final call from God on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at Coastal Manor Nursing Home in Ludowici, GA. She was preceded in death by a brother, William Holmes, a grandson, Jonas L. Grant, and a great-grandson, Cayson J. Thornes.

She leaves to cherish her memories, a son, Albert L. Grant of Costa Rica, a daughter, Elder Mabel L. Burford of Hinesville, GA, a daughter, Brinder M. Grant, a son, John Grant III, and a daughter, Arlene G. Chipp (Willie), all of Midway, GA. One brother, John H. Holmes Sr., 9 grandchildren, 17 great- grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved her dearly.
