It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edna Mae Washington, a cherished mother, grandmother and friend. Edna went to be with the Lord on September 19, 2024 at the age of 73. She was preceded in death by her parents, Orlean Golden and William Varnedoe Jr. her grandmother Lula Anderson , as well as her siblings Isaac Henry Golden Jr., Mary Alice Varnedoe, William Varnedoe III, and Lucy McNeil. She is survived by her two lovely daughters, Lakeeta Adams (Shannon) of Schertz, TX, and Niayma Dunn (Keonna) of Converse, TX; one grandson, Jayvenn Adams; one granddaughter, Ally Adams; two sisters, Margie Stevens (Karlwin) of Brooklyn, NY, and Frednell Walthour (Calvin) of Midway, GA; one brother, Harold Varnedoe of Midway, GA; and her stepmother, Lizzie Mae Varnedoe of Midway, Ga. As we gather to honor the memory of Edna Mae Washington, who touched our lives so profoundly, we are reminded of the warmth she brought into every room and the genuine kindness she shared with everyone she met. Her laughter was a balm for weary hearts, and her unwavering support was a lifeline for many. Always ready to lend a listening ear, she made everyone feel seen and valued leaving an indelible mark on so many souls. Though she may no longer be with us, her spirit of generosity and love continues to inspire us as we carry her legacy forward. This is a reminder to smile a little brighter, give a little more, and be there for one another as she was for us. In this way, she remains alive in our hearts, a beautiful reminder of the power of compassion and connection. As Mama would say, So long, Farewell, Unicorn!
