Deaconess Irma
Jean (Underwood) Bowser
February 25, 1950 – July 11, 2024
Irma Jean (Underwood) Bowser affectionately known as " SMOOCHES," passed away on July 11, 2024, in Hinesville, GA. Born to the late Agnes Elizabeth (Greene) Underwood and Oleaun Dennis underwood on February 25, 1950 in Little Rock, Arkansas. She was a beacon of light and warmth in the community she dearly loved.
In 1981, she married her beloved Melvin F. Bowser in Phoenix, AZ, and later renewed their vows at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist church in Hinesville, GA, marking the beginning of a shared life filled with love and devotion. She traveled the world as a honorary military veteran spouse with her husband, where they later retired to their
home in Hinesville Georgia.
Irma attended Catholic and Public schools in Tucson Arizona. After graduating, she obtained a nursing degree and continued her nursing education in various states while traveling as a military spouse along side her loving husband. Her final job title was a Physical Therapy Assistant at Bryan County Rehab in Richmond Hill, GA.
She was a registered nurse who conscientiously served her patients and anyone who needed help with dignity, respect, and true compassion. She had a selfless gift for serving others. During her over 40-year tenure as a nurse, she received multiple awards and recognitions. Her natural gift was always serving the people, which was exemplified through hospitality and being a preceptor to many nurses, sharing the wisdom and experience that she gain over the years.
Her passion for nursing and serving others left extending to Mount Zion Memorial Baptist church as a Deaconess and Head of Hospitality; and as a committed Board Member of Seven Ministries was evident through her dedication and volunteer work left an indelible mark on the community.
Irma's love extends to her four children, Oleauna "Yvette" Brown, Taneisha Wrenett Jones, Anthony Bowser, and the late Edward ("JuJu") Westly Moore Jr., who remember her nurturing soul and loving mother. Her six grand children, Mitchell L. Williams Jr. (Erika), Tyanna and Keyanna White, Irmani and Imaya Moore; great-grand-children Jaylen, Jordyn, Elijah, Jarron, Jaliya, Aiden; god-children Mani, Khalid, Jonathan, Alicia, DeShawn, GG, Micah; Great-Aunts, Helen & Rose (John), Uncle Lewis; sister and brother in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and anyone who called her a relative, will carry her legacy of kindness and joy.
Proceeded in death by her parents, brothers Oleaun ("Skippy"), David, Thomas Underwood and sisters Mary ("Julie") and Lenora ("Honeybee") Underwood. Irma's memory will be cherished and kept alive by her husband Melvin, her children, grandchildren, godchildren, best friend, friends, church members, and the community that was better for her presence.
Services to honor and celebrate the life of Irma Jean Bowser will be held on Friday July 19, 2024 at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 1370 Shaw Rd., Hinesville, GA 31313. Burial will follow at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 8819 US-301, Glenville, GA 30427
