Deacon Lonnie
Harold Lewis
August 20, 1948 – August 25, 2025
Lonnie "Harold" Lewis, 77, of Hinesville, Georgia, passed away on August 25, 2025. He was born on August 20, 1948, in Long County, Georgia, to the late Reverend James Scott and Mother Lizzie George Richardson. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patsy "Elaine" Lewis; his parents; five brothers, William "Randolph" Scott, Garrie Scott, Sr., Herbert Lewis, Bobby George, and Oliver George; and three sisters, Linda Scott, Shirley Scott Dean, and Cynthia George-Spencer.
At an early age, Harold was baptized at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. He attended school in Long County and graduated from Walker High School in 1965. After graduation, he joined the United States Army and served honorably as a Light Weapons Infantryman, completing his service in 1968. He went on to attend Jones College in Jacksonville, Florida, where he earned an Associate of Science degree in Management in 1973. Upon returning home, Harold worked for Rayonier, in Jesup, Georgia, for over 40 years until his retirement.
Harold was a devoted member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon until becoming disabled. He enjoyed traveling, photography, horticulture, and – most of all – time with family. In the early 1990s, he combined his love of gardening with entrepreneurship by founding Lonnie's Landscaping and later became a Certified Master Gardener.
Harold leaves to cherish his memory five daughters, Tunisa Riggins of Fort Lee, NJ, LaToya (Peter) Smith of Upper Marlboro, MD, LaSonya (Michelle) Lewis of Hinesville, GA, Summer Addo of Duluth, GA, and Loni Lewis of Hinesville, GA. He is also survived by seven sisters, Gwinnell Davison, LaRose Slade, Diane Thomas, and Clara (Arthur) Stewart, all of Hinesville, GA, Renee (Charles) Woodard of Silver Spring, MD, Katherine Scott, and Lauretta Scott, both of Vero Beach, FL; and five brothers, Nathaniel (Shirley) George of Hinesville, GA, Frank Scott, Robert Scott, and Willie Scott, all of Vero Beach, FL, and Gayle (Phaedra) Walker of Dothan, AL. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
