Deacon Timothy
Ezra Cray Sr.
June 6, 1964 – September 7, 2025
Timothy Ezra Cray was born on June 14, 1964, in Baxley, GA. Tim was the youngest of ten children born to Edward and Mabel Cray. Named after his grandfather, Ezra Cray, Tim enjoyed being the "spoiled baby" of the bunch, a title from which his siblings would never let him escape. Whether you knew him as Tim, Scully, Smid, Ezra, Nightcrawler, Uncle Tim, Mr. Cray, Grandpa, or Poppy, you knew one thing: he was as humble as he was cool. Tim loved fishing, cooking, gardening, his family, and his faith in God. A very close second after God was his dear Dallas Cowboys.
Tim attended Appling County High School and earned his diploma before joining the U.S. Army. After earning his associate's degree, Tim believed in achieving education at all costs. Tim was known as a walking encyclopedia of knowledge. He excelled at making people feel welcome.
Tim was a wonderful husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, coworker, boss, deacon, and friend. He met the love of his life, Teresa Guster Cray, in 1987, while they were both stationed at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. They were married on October 25, 1996, in Champaign, Illinois and relocated to Hinesville in 1999. Teresa and Tim were proud members of Mount Zion Memorial Chapel and loved worshipping there. Tim joined Army Community Service, where he worked to help soldiers adjust to life on Fort Stewart, a job he loved so much and he was respected by soldiers and superiors alike. He remained there for close to 30 years.
Tim's beloved wife, Teresa, preceded him in death in 2020, after a courageous battle with breast cancer.
Tim was preceded in death by his parent, Mabel and Edward Cray; two brothers, MacArthur and James Earl Cray; two sisters, Dollie Lewis and Dorothy Cray Smith; and one granddaughter, Alexis Blyden.
Tim leaves to mourn, three daughters, Consuelo MacFayden of Fayetteville, NC, Ashlin and Anastasia Cray of Hinesville, GA; two sons, Timothy Blyden (Shondra) of St. Augustine, FL, and Deon Blyden of Fayetteville, NC; five siblings, Charlotte McGregory, Addie Nobles (James) of Brunswick, GA, John Cray (Ester) of Hollywood, FL, Willie Carl Cray (Carolyn), and Maretha Ryals of Baxley, GA; eleven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; eighteen nieces and nephews; one aunt; a large extended family, cousins, dear friends, many coworkers, and church members, all of whom loved him dearly.
Timothy touched so many lives in ways too numerous to count. We are comforted in our faith that he is relaxed in his father's arms and free from suffering and pain.
