Obituary

Deacon Benjamin "BJ" Lloyd was born on May 21, 1951, in McIntosh ( now Midway), Georgia. He was one of six loving children born to the late Harry Lloyd Sr. and Carrie Hargrove LLoyd. Benjamin attended school in Liberty County and graduated from The Old Liberty County High School in 1970. During his school years, he played football. After High School he played softball with Liberty County Community Teams. He was an avid and talented softball player who enjoyed the sport and the friendship.

At an early age, Benjamin joined Wilderness Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Lamar Kelly. He later became an ordained Deacon and served faithfully in many capacities within the church. He also served as a member of the Trustee Board. Deacon Benjamin loved his Wilderness church family and worked diligently to support the ministry, always willing to serve wherever he was needed. He often visited surrounding churches in the community and was a supportive deacon at First Zion Baptist Church where he attended services with his wife. He especially loved to pray and sing his favorite hymn, "Amazing Grace," and also " Do you know the man".

Benjamin was first united in marriage to the late Mrs. Judy A. Lloyd and from this union two children were born. Benjamin was later united to the late Daisy B. Lloyd.

Benjamin was employed as a machine operator with CSX Railroad for 38 years before retiring in June 2011. Following his retirement he had the privilege of working with Dorchester Funeral Home from 2015 until 2021 when his health began to decline.

Benjamin had a deep love for the outdoors. One of his greatest joys was deer hunting with his favorite dog, "Blue." On weekends, he would often leave early in the morning, sometimes as early as 3:00 a.m. to go hunting. He was also a proud and active member of the 12 Gauge Hunting Club.

On September 15, 2012, he was united in holy matrimony to Mrs. Barbara Miller-Lloyd, whom he affectionately called "Baby".

Benjamin was a devoted husband, a loving father, a loving grandfather, and caring brother. He deeply loved his sisters and brothers and cherished the bond they shared. He was also a faithful member of his church family, where he found great joy in fellowship and worship. His faith in God remained the foundation of his life.
