Obituary

Cherie Jeanette (King) Summers was born on August 12th, 1950, to the late Joseph and Albatina King (Hallenbeck) inJersey City NJ. Cherie attended school in Jersey City. While at Dickinson High School, Cherie met the love of her life who would go on to become her husband, Ernest Summers.


Ernest joined the US Army; thus, Cherie became an army wife. They had four children and traveled around the worldstationed at different army posts. They spent the longest time in Germany, and Cherie always spoke fondly and affectionately of their time in Germany with their children.


Cherie became a staunch advocate for the Military Wives who were victims of domestic violence by their spouses she loved the work, and she was great at it, while in Germany she was known as the "Mayor". When Ernest retired from the Army with the status of staff Sergeant they settled in Hinesville Georgia.


Cherie was employed at an organization that managed work release programs for prisoners. This was an excellent position for her, and she seized the opportunity to go further in this
work. After several years she became a compliance officer for the US Department of Corrections. She remained in this position until she had a medical emergency that prevented her from working. She retired from that position.


Cherie is preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband Ernest Summers, they enjoyed 52 years of marriage; her parents Joseph and Albatina King, a sister Theresa Rose King, and a brother George Wallace King.


On December 21st, 2023, Cherie went on to be with the Lord and to rejoin her beloved husband, Earnest. She leaves to cherish her memory, four children John Charles (Tressy),
Keith Darnell (Shawn), and Cornell, and her devoted daughter, Tracy Michele Summers (Herbert) who put her life on hold to care for both her mother and father during their illnesses. Four siblings, Thomas King (Letty), Marie Kinsella - Statham (William), Jeffrey King, Darnell King and Loretta Moreland. Twelve beloved Grandchildren and Great-great children.
