Obituary

Deacon Charles Henry "Mickey" Sapp, Jr. was born December 23, 1950 to Charles (C.H.) Sapp, Sr. and Albertha Gilmore Johnson in the Dorchester Community of Midway, GA. He entered into paradise on
November 8, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. Mickey was the second oldest of eight children. His parents, stepfather (Luther Johnson), beloved aunt (Florence "Sister" Gilmore), one brother (Karl U. Sapp, Sr.), one sister (Pauline Sapp), and one daughter (Keisha Latrell Sapp) preceded him in death. Under the leadership of Rev. P.H. Lyde, Mickey accepted Christ at an early age at Community Baptist Church in Midway. He was ordained as deacon at Community, and even served as Chairman of its Deacon Board. In his later years, Mickey joined Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Townsend, GA where he worked in the deacon's ministry until his health compromised his ability to serve.

Mickey was educated in the Liberty County School System and was a member of the original Liberty County High's Class of 1968. Not long after finishing high school, he began a career at Interstate Paper in
Riceboro, GA. There, Mickey worked as a Class A Mechanic for more than 45 years. Following his retirement in 2018, Mickey secured employment opportunities that allowed him to serve his community more directly. He worked as a bus driver for the Liberty County School System, as a school crossing guard for the Liberty County Sheriff's Department, and as a staff member of the Dorchester Funeral Home.

For many years, Mickey was actively involved in the Hinesville Officials Association, Inc. where he officiated sporting events for budding athletes throughout Liberty County. He was also a proud member of the Christian Men's Golf Association, a group which he helped charter in Liberty County. To continue his legacy, Mickey leaves his devoted wife of 43 years, Rev. Dr. Fascia D. Sapp, and four children: Tasha Sapp, Dr. Karla Sapp, TSgt. Charles "Chase" (Kalesha) Sapp, III, and Dwight Stevens. He also leaves five grandchildren whom he raised as his own: Mercedes Sapp, Kamarie Sapp-Moore, Jazmine Sapp-Moore, Khalea Sapp-Brown, and Khaden Sapp-Polite. His grandchildren also include Marquis Anderson, Scottie Barnes, Jr., Jahquez Davis, and Jah'veya Davis. Great-grandchildren who will cherish his memory are Alayah Sapp-Griffin, Paisley Sapp, Jalen Sapp, Jaida Sapp, Madison Jackson, Regan Sapp, Kingston Sapp-Brown, and Khy'Lanni Sapp-Horton. Mickey will be dearly missed by his siblings: Deborah Smith, Linda Sapp, Brinda (Pete) VanBrussel, Quintin (Rose) Johnson, Sr., and LaQuinta Nicole (Sean) Minor. He also will be missed by his in-laws: Tanya Walker, Fatima (Clennon) Jones, Johnny (Mable) Streets, Lonnie Smith, Jocque (Earl) McCollum, Deacon Freddie (Carolyn) Palmer, Wayne (Christine) Ferguson, Ginger Ferguson, Dean Jenkins, Marybelle Houston, Lynette "Curly" (Alfred) Murphy, Carolyn Palmer, Hattie Mae Paul, Cynthia (BJ) Alston, Ann Bursey Ferguson, Beverly McIntyre, Annette Ferguson, Wanda Ferguson, Jacquelyn Ferguson, and Debra Sapp.

To cherish his memory, Mickey leaves a host of dear extended family and friends. Among them are his god children (Kimberly Sapp-Mixon, Jennifer Sapp, Jimmy Price, Jr., Chelsea Mells, and Tania Barrett), an adopted son (Quadric Wallace), and special buddies (Leotis "Buck" Palmer, Sr., Fredrick Proctor, Bernard Hamilton, Pascal Quarterman, Deacon Dan James, Mr. Felton, and Gregory Evans).
