Obituary

Charles Wesley Quarterman Jr., also known as the "The Big Boy" and "Charlie" was born in Midway, Georgia, on January 30, 1941 to the late Charles "Pa" Quarterman Sr. and Dorothy Hamilton Quarterman.

Charles was educated in the Liberty County School System. He played the drums in the band. He graduated from Liberty High School, Midway, Georgia in 1959. After graduating high school, Charles migrated to the Bronx, New York. He was a Christian Fellowship member of Friendly Baptist Church in the Bronx. In 1979, Charles joined the Sons of Light Masonic Lodge 228 of Brooklyn, NY. He was a 32nd degree Mason.


Charles loved the Lord and was very devoted to his family and friends. He was known for being trustworthy, hardworking, giving to others and always meant business. He retired from New York City Transit, and also Temco Service Industries - NY after more than 30 years of service in 2006.

Charles fell asleep in the arms of the Lord to live eternally on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 at Slip Rock Rehabilitation Center (Bronx, New York), from complications of a stroke. He is now resting with his Heavenly Father and all of his loved ones in Heaven, to include his earthly father Charles Sr., his mother Dorothy, his brothers Prince, Thomas, Earl and John Howard.

He leaves to cherish his memories, one son: Charles A. Quarterman, III (Lily) of Bushkill, PA; one daughter: Raven Quartermon of Jamaica, NY; a stepdaughter: Tonya Lapsley-Cockett (Noel) of Newburgh, NY; a stepson: Standford Lapsley of Bronx, NY, one grandson: Xavier Quarterman of Connecticut; three granddaughters: Imani Quarterman, Madison Quarterman of Bushkill, PA and Jaiana Ellerby of Jamaica, NY; two brothers: Pascal Quarterman (Alice), Isaiah Quarterman (Samantha) of Midway GA; two sister-in-laws: Annie Quarterman and Dorothy Quarterman of the Bronx, NY; a special cousin (more like his sister) Dorothy Hamilton of New York, NY; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
