Ret, MSG Carol Simmons entered into this world on January 29,1948 to the late James Simmons and Gertie Roberts Simmons. Carol, affectionately known as "Papa", was called from labor to reward on Saturday, December 23, 2023.


Carol was educated in the Liberty County School System and graduated from Liberty County High School with the class of 1967. Shortly after leaving school, Carol was "called" to serve his country in the United States Army. During his career he completed overseas tours in Vietnam and Germany.


While in Vietnam he earned the Vietnam Service Medal as well as the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. While serving stateside, he was stationed at Fort Meade and lastly at Fort Benning, now known as Fort Moore. He did tours in Vietnam, Germany, and stateside at Fort Moore, then Fort Benning in Columbus, GA. During his military career he
received the Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Overseas Service Medal, Overseas Service Bars, Meritorious Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon with Numeral 3, Army Good Conduct Medal.


Carol was a faithful member of Thebes AME Church where he was a class leader, a member of the finance committee, the Steward Board, the Sons of Allen, and the transportation committee, a staunch supporter of the YPD, former Sunday School Superintendent, served as the local Lay Organization (Savannah North District) president and worked wherever needed in the church. He was also very active in the community and supported many other local churches.


Before his health declined he was an avid gardener, grill master, and cook. Although he did not get to see them win a Super Bowl he was a Faithful (Atlanta) Falcons Fan. He was also a fan of all Atlanta based and Georgia sports teams.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two brothers, Nathan and Abraham Simmons and sister, Hattie Simmons Hargrove.
Carol leaves to cherish his memories his children: Caroll Jr., Midway, GA, Belinda, Cheryle. Siblings: Evelyn (LeRoy), Manassas, VA; Whymon (Diane), Philadelphia, PA; Anthony, James Jr. (Marsha), Thelma (Arthur), Henrietta, Malinda and Vernecia (Kenneth), all of Midway. GA. Sister and brother in law Gloria Simmons and LeVan Hargrove. 10 grandchildren,
6 great grandchildren, a dedicated niece Paulette Simmons Robertson, a devoted friend and caregiver, Ponseitta Roberts, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
