Our beloved Calvin Leon Cummings tragically left us on June 13, 2024 in Richmond Hill, GA. Born on September 23, 1967 in Hinesville, GA, to the parents of Nathaniel L. Cummings and Ethel L.&Cummings,Calvin touched many lives with hisinfectious smile, laughter, humor, and kindness. He resided inLudowici, GA.
Calvin was baptized into membership at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorship of the late Reverend T.J. Wright. For several years he served as an usher.
Calvinstarted his formal education in Long County and continued in Liberty County at Bacon Primary, Button Gwinnett and Hinesville Middle School. Hewas a 1985graduate of Bradwell Institute.
In Calvin's earlier years, he was a member of the Liberty County 4-H Club under the leadership of his grandmother, Carlene B. Cummings. He participated and won awards in food projects, making his family proud.We laughed so much at him practicing his presentations at his grandma's house when he'd mistakenly say "you smash the banana" instead of "mash the banana." Little did we know then, bananas can be smashed. Lesson learned, thanks Calvin!
Calvin served his country in the United States Army from November 14, 1985 to January 18, 1992. His rank was Sergeant/E-5; MOS: Combat Engineer. He served one tour in Operation Desert Storm. Decorations, medals and awards: Army Service Ribbon, Army Lapel Button, National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal with Bronze Service Star – 2, Parachutist Badge, Rifle Marksman, Overseas Ribbon, and Army Achievement Medal (10LC).
He was a civilian worker on Fort Stewart. Calvin also worked in other areas where he resided during the years.
Calvin was a motorcycle enthusiast. He was afoundingmember of theTrendsetters Motorcycle Club anda member of DirtRoadBoyz.
Calvin loved his family and loved entertaining them. Most recently, was his mother's 77thBirthday Celebration at his home.
Calvin was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Carlene B. Cummings,NathanandAlethia S.Roberts.
Calvin leaves behind to cherish his fond memories hischildren, Christopher (Shemekia) Cummings,Charmaine Newman,Tyree Newman, Nathanyl Reevey, Jordyn Cummings, Carissa Cummings and Zayvion Cummings;hisgrandchildren,Rainer Rackley, Averey Britton, Sanai Cummings, Khalil Douglas and Carlee Cummings;hisparents, Nathaniel L. Cummings and Ethel L. Cummings of Midway, GA;hissiblings,LaNeaysaM. Cummings of Atlanta, GA,Naicie(Devin) Marrow of Jacksonville, FL and Carl J. (Josie) Cummings ofStatesboro, GA; hisnephewsand nieces, FabianCummings, Christian Cummings, Roman Marrow, Aubree Cummings, Zola Marrow and Kalani Cummings;his uncles and aunts, Sarah C. (Edward) Stevens, Shirley C. Frasier,Princess Jean Golphin,Curtes (Florence) Roberts,Carrie (Gilbert) Harris, Aaron (Judy) Roberts, Sandra Campbell, Alphonso (Samantha) Roberts, and Verdelle Davis;his veryspecialbrotherand sister, Kevinand KimelaCombs;and a host of cousins and friends.
Calvin will be missed tremendously, but we believe that he worked hard to fulfil his purpose in this life, and we find strength in the assurance that we will, one day, see him again.Rest well, S3ADOG!
