Obituary

Ann (Annie Lou) Collins Martin Walthour was born on Good Friday, April 18, 1930 in Bryan County, Georgia to the late Clifford and Queen Collins of Allenhurst, Georgia.

While growing up, Ann attended school in Bryan and Liberty Counties. In 1947, Ann fell in love and married the late Herman Martin, Sr. From this union, they were blessed with eight children; Herman Jr., Mary Flowers, Larry (deceased), Pauline Pituk, Miles, Sandra Ferguson, Tammy Seymour (deceased), and Allen.

Ann's spiritual foundation was nurtured when she was a young girl and continued when she was baptized at St. Peters AME Church. She attended Church regularly, and she was a faithful servant leader who worked diligently in her Church. She made it a priority to ensure that her children also had a positive spiritual foundation and in turn, her children passed that foundation down to her grandchildren.

Ann worked at Liberty Memorial Hospital and held various jobs throughout her lifetime, but she always let it be known that her most rewarding jobs were taking care of children and working as a faithful servant in her church.

On November 30, 1985, Ann experienced another extraordinary event in her life when she married Deacon Freddie Walthour. Like Ann, he had several children from a previous marriage; Freddie Jr., Kirtly, Michael, Evelyn, Mary, Steve, Nancy, Philip, and Mark. After 30 years of marriage, Freddie was "called home" on August 8, 2015.

Ann loved flowers, and her hobby was working in her yard tending to her gardenia bushes, rose bushes, and other beautiful plants. Green was her favorite color, and her favorite song was "You Are My Sunshine".

Ann's final yeras were spent at St. Francis Assisted Living Community in Macon, Georgia. She was in hospice, but her mind was sharp and she enjoyed singing. She had many friends and people who came to love her. She left quite a legacy and that legacy, along with her memory, lives on through her children Herman Martin, Jr. (and spouse Wynell) of Amityville, NY., Mary Martin Flowers (and spouse Dennis) of Fayetteville, NC., Pauline Pituk of Atlanta, GA., Miles Martin of Herndon, VA., Sandra Tyson Ferguson of Charlotte, NC., and Allen Martin (and spouse Amanda) of Albany, GA. She also leaves her memory to her children by marriage Freddie Walthour, Jr. (and spouse Eloise), Kirtly (and spouse Josephine), Michael, Evelyn Olsen (and spouse Dennis), and Mary Hines (and spouse Walter)

As the oldest, Ann also leaves behind siblings Kaite Johnson of Hinesville, GA., Queen Collins of Hinesville, GA., Minnie Smith of Farrell, PA., Roy Collins of Hinesville, GA., and Benny Collins of Hinesville, GA. Preceding Ann in death were her siblings Smilly Collins, Charles Collins, Wiley Collins (survived by spouse Alfreda), James Collins (survived by spouse Pauline), and Issacs Collins (survived by spouse Carolyn).

In addition, Ann also leaves behind a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. Ann's favorite quote was: "Enjoy your life. Tell your loved ones that you love them because only God knows the time & place ….. not man".

On Monday morning, December 9, 2024, Ann "Annie Lou" Collins Martin Walthour took her final rest. Her son Allen, was at her side and held her in his arms in those final moments.
