August 21, 1949 – January 19, 2022
Alfred Mayo was born on August 21, 1949 to the union of the late Charlie Mayo and
Mamie Jones. When he was young, his mother later married the late Richmond Jones Jr. Alfred
referred to him as his father, and attributed his work ethics and teachings to his life.
In 1969, Alfred graduated from Carter-Parramore High School and enlisted in the Armed
Forces. He was stationed at Fort Hood, TX in 1974; where he met his lovely wife Alma of 46
years. After 20 years of honorable service and several assignments abroad, including two fours in
Germany and Vietnam, ISG Mayo retired and made Hinesville, GA home.
As a veteran of the Vietnam War Alfred earned several medals: ronze Star Service
Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (40LC), Army Achievement
Medal (30LC), Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal (60 Device). Army Service Ribbon,
National Defense Service Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal (6th Award), Combat Medical
Badge and NO Professional Development Ribbon.
Alfred continued working after retirement and fulfilled many different job roles; Liberty
County Sheriff' Department (Deputy), Midway Nursing Home (Nurse Assistant), Chemtall Inc.
(Security), Liberty Labs (Lab Manager), Bail Bondsman, Public Notary, and Project Manager.
He was a member of Agape Christian Fellowship, Inc., and was the overseer of the audio/video
system.
Alfred was a hardworking, committed and dedicated man. He was also funny, witty and
loving. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and lived a well-deserving life. He is
loved by many, and his legacy will live on.

guardianships of: in-law/daughter, Denice Burnam (Leroy) of Hinesville, GA, and nephew/son,
Antonio Fernandez of Beaufort, South Carolina; brother: Wendell Mayo (Debra) of Quincy, FL;
sisters: Sharon Ross of Tallahassee, FL, and Janice Britt (Maurice) of Quincy, FL; aunt: Martha
Armstead of Quincy, FL; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother: Mamie Jones; stepfather: Richmond Jones Jr.;
and sister: Mary Darby Scarbough
