The Late Dr. Adewunmi Olanrewaju Sobowale , affectionately known as Ade, was born on December 5th, 1963, to the late Christopher A. Sobowale (a retired Assistant Chief Building Superintendent at the Federal Ministry of Works & Housing) and Elizabeth O. Sobowale (a reputable business woman), of Lagos Nigeria. He departed this life suddenly on Feb 10th, 2023.&
Dr. Sobowale completed his standard and primary education at Ereko Methodist School, in Lagos state Nigeria between 1968-1973. He then went on to complete his secondary education at the Maryland Comprehensive Secondary School, Lagos state, Nigeria ; between 1974-1980. He was a star footballer and scholar, earning awards in both sports and academics. He was also a member of the Literary and Debating Society while enrolled at MCSS.
Ade came to the United States, Maryland, in 1982 to attend Morgan State University, a well renowned HBCU at the time. While attending Morgan State University, he would receive many scholarships and honors to highlight his academic prowess. As a Biology major on the Pre-med track, he received his Bachelors of Science in Biology while participating in various social and academic societies. During his academic career, Ade was able to work in various labs as a researcher studying "Management Modalities of Nephrolithiasis". As a student, Ade made a host of new friendships and family that will cherish him forever. Much of his formative years in the medical field would be done in New York City, close to his supporting friends and family. He went on to complete his academic career at the New York Institute/Old Westbury College of Osteopathic Medicine, in 1992, where he would obtain his medical degree and become Dr. Adewunmi Sobowale. The following years he would go on to complete a Medical Internship at Coney Island Hospital and his residency at Catholic Medical Center of Brooklyn & Queens.
After finishing medical school, as well as fellowships and residency, Ade settled in Georgia and opened his own Practice in 2000. Richmond Hill would become his forever home as he continued to establish himself in the area through his professional endeavors and life at home. Throughout his years in Coastal Georgia, he also collaborated with the Liberty Regional and Bacon County Hospital systems, while also acting as the medical director for Coastal Manor Nursing Home and Your Family Hospice at different points in time .
When Ade was not busy saving lives, he enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling to visit friends all over the world. Ade loved to grill on the weekends, often hosting local family and friends whenever possible. With his personal time he loved to watch foreign films; opting for a classic Kung Fu movie (which he would often quote and imitate with his sons) or a Nigerian Nollywood film when he could. He was an avid sports fan as well, challenging anyone to a table tennis match or keeping up with professional sports teams. Even as a Georgia resident Ade was a true Alabama Football fan; on occasion he would get into passionate debates about why his team was the best. One of his longtime passions has been restoring older sports cars.
Ade leaves behind his wife, children, siblings, nieces and nephews; as well as a host of family, friends, colleagues, and patients .
He lived a life that deeply impacted many people and his presence and kindness will be greatly missed.
