A1C Lee
Joseph Bacon
July 17, 1946 – February 11, 2025
Lee Joseph Bacon (Mr. Joe) was born to the late Myrtice Lee George-Bacon and Leroy "Frost" Bacon Sr. He was born and grew
up in Long County, Georgia.
From an early age, Lee was an active and adventurous child. He joined Mt. Zion Missionary Church as a little boy and spent his
childhood surrounded by faith, family, and the joys of a country life. He loved sports and played football in his youth, often
sharing stories of his days on the field. Some of his best memories included riding horses and exploring his family's property in
Ludowici, Georgia, where he developed a deep appreciation for the outdoors.
Beyond his time in the Air Force, Lee found joy in life's simple pleasures. He was a devoted fan of football and classic Westerns,
often spending hours watching his favorite teams with his sons or enjoying a good cowboy film. But nothing made him happier
than fishing, whether on a peaceful morning by the water or sharing fishing stories with family and friends that was something he
loved dearly.
Lee graduated from Liberty County High School in 1964, a milestone that marked not only the start of his future but also the
beginning of a lifelong love story. It was there that he met the love of his life, Laura Mae Bacon. Their journey together began at
just 15 years old, and their bond remained unbreakable. This year, on October 9, 2025, they would have celebrated 60 years of
marriage, a testament to their enduring love and partnership.
Lee cherished his family, especially the close relationship he shared with his three children, Jonell, Gerald, and Dewayne. He
took great pride in their accomplishments, always offering wisdom, support, and unconditional love. Whether through deep
conversations, laughter-filled moments, or simply being present, he made sure they knew just how much they meant to him.
One of Lee's greatest joys was his morning routine, especially when it involved a breakfast prepared by his wife, Laura Mae. He
had a special love for grits, eggs over easy and toast, and he never let anyone forget just how much he loved his eggs over easy!
If you knew Mr. Joe, you knew that he loved to sit down and share a good story. He could talk for hours, taking you on a journey
through his many adventures in life. Whether it was tales from his time in Vietnam, memories from his childhood, or lessons
learned along the way, there was always wisdom hidden within his words, if you listened closely. Laughter and smiles followed
him wherever he went. It was rare to see a frown on his face because Mr. Joe believed in finding joy in every moment. His
presence was warm, his stories unforgettable, and his laughter contagious. He had a way of making you feel at home, and if you
were lucky enough to hear one of his stories, you walked away with not just a memory, but a lesson to carry forward.
Lee Joseph Bacon's memory will forever be treasured by his devoted wife of many years, Laura Mae Bacon, and their loving
children: Dewayne Bacon, Jonell (John) Bacon/Seward, Gerald (Sharon) Bacon, of Hinesville, GA.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father Myrtice Lee George-Bacon and Leroy "Frost" Bacon Sr, two beloved
brothers, Leroy Bacon and Charles Bacon, and is survived by his brother Jerome (Yakashia) Bacon and their daughter, Britny.
Lee was a proud grandfather to four grandchildren who he loved very much: Asia (John) Bacon, Brandon Powers, Deondra
Bacon, and Quai'neilius Bacon, and an amazing great-grandfather to Zi'on Thomas, Kristopher Powers, and Brayleigh Powers.
He also leaves behind a cherished extended family, including his sisters-in-law: Mary Lou (Rufus M) Powell, Lula Walthour, and
Emma Roberts, as well as his brother-in-law, James (Shirley) Frasier.
Additionally, he held a special place in his heart for his two godsons, Ezekiel Walthour II and Justin Frasier, along with a host of
nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends whom he loved deeply.
