Robert Michael Dorsey

On Tuesday afternoon, March 14, 2023, just five days short of his 80th birthday, Robert Michael Dorsey of Hinesville, Georgia passed away surrounded by his family at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah, Georgia.

Robert was born on March 19, 1943 to the union of John Jackson and Enid Dorsey in West Chester, Pennsylvania. Shortly after graduation from high school, Robert joined the United States Army in which he proudly served for 22 years and attained the rank of Sergeant First Class. During his military career, he served in South Korea, Viet Nam, and three different tours in West Germany. He also served at Fort Hood, Texas, Fort Riley, Kansas, Fort Stewart, Georgia and finally at Fort Dix, New Jersey where he retired in 1982. While serving in the military, he earned numerous awards to include the Bronze Star for service in Viet Nam.
On January 13, 1967, he married Carolyn Virginia Everett and they spent the next 56 years together. Their union produced two sons, Robert M. Dorsey Jr, and Lawrence P. Dorsey, and one daughter, Pamela M. Funke.

His parents and his sister, Mary White, preceded him in death. Left to cherish his memory is his wife and his three children. He also leaves behind two grandchildren, Joshua T. Funke, and Cathryn M. Funke, and two great grandchildren, Sophie M. Folmar and Phoenix A. Folmar. His sister, Marjorie Griffith and his brothers Steve Dorsey and Hugh Dorsey plus a host of cousins, nieces and nephews also survive him.

Rob loved to bowl and did so twice a week at Marne Lanes on Fort Stewart and he loved to watch old cowboy shows, but mostly, he loved spending time with his family, especially little Sophie. We will all miss h
