Mrs. Dorothy Estella (Walthour) Jones, age 91, died March 17, 2023. She was born in 1931 in the McIntosh Community of Liberty County to the late William and Wilhelmina Walthour, who proceeded her in death. She was educated at the Liberty County Training School in Riceboro, Ga and was a graduate of Savannah State College, with a degree in Home Economics with emphasis on textiles.
She was joined in holy matrimony to late Charles Jones and they soon moved to Philadelphia, PA. Years later, Dorothy, her husband and children moved back to Liberty County, GA. She taught Home Economics at Bradwell Institute. She thrived in business endeavors that included "Jones Auto Repair" on Hwy 196 East, which was built and owned by her and her late husband Charles. Her husband Charles; her son Eric Kevin; her sisters Lillie Gillard and Sallie Richardson; and three brothers: Jeremiah, Samuel and William Walthour, Jr. proceeded her in death.
She enjoyed reading her bible, designing and creating clothes & textiles for her family - which she did with flair and style.
She also enjoyed working on crossword puzzles and bible word games on her tablet. The music she created and played on her keyboard was simply beautiful. She faithfully attended worship services at the Wildercroft church of Christ (Riverdale, MD) until her health failed.
Left to cherish her memory are two sons: Michael and Karl; two daughters: Thea Jones and Judy (Kenny) Anderson; one brother: Ezekiel (Paulette) Walthour; two sister-in-laws: Ada Walthour and Gwen Walthour. She has five grandchildren, Chrystal Singleton-Prue, Veronica Jones, Tareva (Christian) Tabron, Caleb (Britni) Jones, and Mary Jones; seven great-grandchildren: Jason, Jada, Juliana, Jordynne, Joelle, Ava, and Chris; as well as other relatives and friends.
